Why the additional change in tiering?
On the savings accounts, we lowered the qualifying tier for the higher rate. Regular passbook and statement savings customers now start earning a higher interest rate at a lower balance.
On the NOW account, we brought it in line with our three tier approach for interest checking. The middle tier pays the highest rate on the product. While we will continue to pay competitive rates on these products, we hope to encourage depositors to place large funds in a product that has more limited external access to their monies. Funds in checking (transaction) accounts may be withdrawn via a Debit card (which we hand over to cashiers and waiters), ATM card (which can be skimmed), and/or verbally authorized drafts (which we more frequently provide on even phone purchases). While it may be convenient to keep your funds in one place, we recommend that depositors keep minimal excess funds on top of those required to cover their transactions.
Please take a moment to consider our savings and time deposit offerings!

What is Tiering and how does it affect me?
Tiering provides different rates for different balances. It allows us to set a higher rate for higher balances in your existing accounts. The entire balance earns the rate of the Tier it falls within. Using our current Statement Savings tiered account as an example (APYs as of 8/6/08): $200 to $4,999.99 yields 0.90%APY; $5,000 and up yields 1.30%APY. If your daily balance is $5,800.00, your APY for that day would be the daily periodic rate yielding the 1.30%APY on the entire $5,800.00.
Our current rate sheet already has the following tiered accounts: Statement Passbook, Red Carpet: Money Market and Money Market Plus.
